November 11 was the 52nd Veterans? Day since the holiday was renamed. Originally called Armistice Day, the holiday was established to commemorate the end of World War I on November 11, 1918. Today this national holiday celebrate s all American veterans. Below are some statistics examining veterans and the U.S. military:

Total population of the United States: 295.7 million

Military veterans living in the United States: 24.5 million

U.S. military personnel on active duty: 1.4 million

Number of citizens in the U.S. available army reserve: 1.06 million
