Too many kids/teens/young adults are left debilitated or die from this vaccine preventable disease.
I am the mother of an only child, Ryan, who died from meningitis.

I wanted to commend you on a well written, easy to understand, and important message. My son, died from meningococcal septicemia on 2/12/04 - four years ago. He was 16 and had not had the vaccine. I am so glad that you are getting the word out about the vaccine. Too many people have never heard of the vaccine, and don't know how devastating this disease can be. Thank you.

I had the most lethal form which is meningococcal
septicemia and survived after 3 WEEKS in the ICU/Telementry unit! Surprisingly I am not a young college student but a spunky young looking 61 year old gym enthusiast who was normally always healthy and looked 20 years younger so it shows that you never know when, why and who gets this serious illness. It affected every organ and left me near death in a quick manner following 2 days of a one sided sore throat, and then quick succession of difficulty breathing, rib and lung pain and then pain in the cardiac region.
They told me I had many lesions of Cancer in the liver ( I had None) and quickly all the organs in my body went into failure and I ended being nearly Code Blue material. The Rapid Response Team had to be called, and the rest of the diagnosis was no cancer but memingococcal septicemia which can kill you, so I do want to advocate the vaccine which is so minor in comparrision to you life, and everyone near you was given Cipro antibiotic that helps them with the immunity once they were near you.
The disease is deadly within 1-2 days often, and you never know how you get it as the organism lives in all our environments but when our immunity is down, maybe not eating right or something else benign ,according to the Center of Disease Control (C.D.C.) So please spread the word about this quick killer and get a simple vaccine, it is more than worth it , and I am even a RN who never even heard about this before.
Don't be a statistic .
