Scholar-athletes get UAA academic honors

Carnegie Mellon's athletic department announced on Feb. 13 that 59 Carnegie Mellon scholar-athletes were named to the University Athletic Association’s (UAA) All-Academic Recognition list for the winter sports teams. This included one student from the women's basketball team, six from the men's basketball team, nine from the women's swimming and diving teams, fifteen from the men's swimming and diving team, nine from the women's track and field team, and nineteen from the men's track and field team. Scholar-athletes eligible for the All-Academic Recognition must have completed at least one full year of college study and carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.200. Carnegie Mellon's athletes were among 535 total UAA scholar-athletes, who represent teams in five men's and four women's UAA winter sports. "The students recognized by the UAA as scholar athletes have attained an impressive achievement," Athletic Director Susan Bassett said. "We are especially proud of our scholar-athletes for excelling academically and athletically."
