Buggy performance made an amazing leap this year, ending a 20-year plateau It was particularly amazing when you understand that for all of everyone's time and effort every year, winning times haven't improved this drastically since they did in '88, when the last record was broken by Spirit by around 2 full seconds. The history of buggy through the late 80's showed a fairly steady improvement in winning times but, since then, buggy seemed to have reached a wall. This may be part of the reason why turnout for buggy seems to have reached an all-time low as well -- fewer teams; fewer entries. Plus I feel like there were more alums in the chute than students. Hopefully next year will see a resurgance of interest. It's a little bit sad that, as CMU gets larger and more prominent as an institution, the interest in this awesome tradition (and booth, for that matter) declines.
