Inside Deep Throat Thursday Oct. 2, 2008 8 10 12 The first NC-17 movie to ever be aired on HBO, this examination of the most well-known porn film of all-time is not only a naughty little film itself, but a good look inside a bygone era of the porn industry. Narrated by Dennis Hopper, Inside Deep Throat features scenes from the movie and new and archived footage of interviews with some of the leading erotica enthusiasts of the time, including Hugh Hefner, Larry Flynt, Linda Lovelace, and mafia money collectors. If you don’t know, Deep Throat broke new ground as far as the adult film industry and faced much controversy upon its release. Inside Deep Throat takes a deep, penetrating look inside the more artsy era of porn and the men and women who gave their all in order to give us TBA.

Run Fatboy Run Friday Oct. 3, 2008 10 12 Simon Pegg of Hot Fuzz fame stars as a loser fat boy in this 2007 comedy that also features The Simpsons voice star Hank Azaria. The movie, written by Pegg and well-known comedian/TV star Michael Ian Black, enjoyed limited success here, but was a great success across the pond in Britain. The plot is fairly generic: boy loses girl, boy wants girl back, stud gets girl, boy probably should just give up yet refuses to do so, boy runs a marathon to prove himself (I guess that’s unique). Oh, and this is apparently David Schwimmer’s — that Friends guy, remember? — directorial debut so if that didn’t scare you off by all means see this movie.

Speed/Independence Day Saturday Oct. 4, 2008 Nightfall, On the Cut Oh boy, it’s double feature night at Carnegie Mellon and honestly, could you pick two more perfect action thriller films? In Speed we get Keanu Reeves doing his best “I can be a serious actor” impression of his career, along with a maniacal Dennis Hopper as they try to out mind-game each other while doing 50 in a bus. Independence Day sets a slightly different tone, opting for a sci-fi angle instead. In addition, we get Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith giving excellent performances as David Levinson and the Fresh Prince join forces in order to save the world from utter annihilation. Be sure not to miss this exciting, probably freezing double feature night starting at nightfall out on the Cut.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Sunday Oct. 5, 2008 8 10 12 My personal pick for most under-appreciated movie of all-time, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a perfect darkly comedic movie that is sure to entertain you for its entire 103 minute run. Robert Downey Jr. stars as a small time crook who inadvertently gets a free ride to Hollywood to star in a movie. There he meets a gay private eye named Gay, played by Val Kilmer, who is assigned to represent him for his role. But things get wacky almost immediately as Downey stumbles upon a real murder mystery. Throughout the movie Downey frequently breaks the fourth wall (talking to the camera for you non-CFA folk) and is simply brilliant in his role. Definitely a must-see for anyone who has ever wanted to be happy at some point in their lives.
