Lake of Fire is a graphic documentary that details both sides of the controversial debate over abortion. Director Tony Kaye, who financed the film himself, set out to make Lake of Fire 15 years ago in order to gather information on every side of the abortion issue. Featuring interviews and video that could be extremely unsettling to the faint of heart, this critically acclaimed documentary gives a broad yet impartial look inside this heated debate. Lake of Fire is a moving and thoughtful piece of cinema.

WALL-E

WALL-E is a beautifully animated film about a robot, WALL-E, who was designed as a mobile trash compacter in order to clean up a toxic and very polluted Earth in the year 2110. By following WALL-E, we explore a world of child-like wonder and innocence through the eyes of what is supposed to be a cold and emotionless metal shell. The film, like many of Pixar’s creations, is sometimes a little too sophisticated for the PG audience it’s intended for: For example, children likely won’t see the film’s environmental undertones, but it still offers a little something for everyone.

Alien
Saturday, Sept. 13
7:30 10 12:30
The film that spawned a whopping five sequels and coined the now legendary saying, “In space, no one can hear you scream,” now comes to a theater right near you. One of the most influential films of our time, Alien is a thriller ahead of its time that follows a futuristic space crew as it responds to a distress signal coming from an uncolonized planet. Suspense builds and scares abound, however, following the infamous chest-burster scene and subsequent stalking of the crew by the mysterious alien. Voted the seventh best science fiction movie of all time by the American Film Institute, Alien is a must-see for all fans of the genre..

The Strangers
Sunday, Sept. 14

If you’re a fan of large knives, violent crimes, stabbings, masks, creepy children, blood, and cottages, especially all at once, then this is without a doubt the movie for you. Really, it is just another movie of the thriller/slasher genre that doesn’t really separate itself from other movies like it, but it does have a petrified Liv Tyler running and bleeding about during the course of the film. Apparently, there’s going to be a sequel at some point in the future, so if you don’t see it now, there’s no way you’ll be caught up for more mindless violence that doesn’t make you think by 2010.
